Florida Auto Insurance and the Cost of Vehicle Repairs

It is a sad fact of life on the road that accidents sometimes happen, which explains why, as a driver, Florida auto insurance is so important to have. In the event that you are involved in an accident and there has been damage to your vehicle, there is a procedure to go through before repairs are done to your car.

The insurance company will generally provide a claims adjuster, who will check your vehicle and give an estimate as to the cost of repairs. It’s also important to get a number of quotes from different garages for repairs yourself – these can then be compared to the estimate given by the adjuster. Price is not the only consideration – you also need to consider the quality of work included in the quote.

You are not obliged to just accept the adjuster’s estimate if you feel that it is not the best deal, and you are entitled to negotiate with the insurance company as to which quote is the most appropriate, and hopefully come to an agreement.

In the end though, it is the insurer who pays the bill (assuming you have the coverage of course), and if they feel that the repairs are not worth doing, for instance if your vehicle is old or of a low value, they may opt to pay you out instead for the “book value” of your vehicle. Again you have the option of negotiating on a fair outcome.

It’s important to note also that when you claim on your Florida auto insurance policy for an accident that was your fault, your premiums may increase when your policy is renewed.
